Community Board 9 Land Use Plan

Section 197-a of the New York City
Charter states that Community Boards can develop long-range,
comprehensive land use plans for their districts and submit them to
the New York City Planning Commission and the New York City Council
for adoption.
Harlem CDC's Planning Department provided
financing,
urban |
planning and technical assistance to Manhattan Community
Board 9, and assisted its consultants, the Pratt Center, in
the creation of such a plan. Incorporated into the plan were
comments received from the multiple community forums held
and dealt with such issues as job development, affordable
housing, historic preservation, contextual zoning, open
space, environmental protection and transportation
enhancements.
The plan was adopted with modifications by the City Planning
Commission and the City Council and is now the guiding principle for
future development within the Board’s district boundaries.
